Communication Council meets in January

The SEK Interlocal Communication Council met at the Interlocal Office on January 14, 2010.

Two inservice activities were announced. They will address 'Behavior' and will be conducted by school psychologists Greg Kubler and Darrick Perry. The events will be at the Interlocal Office and will be from 1-3 p.m. on January 28th for elementary teachers and on February 9 for middle school and high school teachers.

It was announced that the Interlocal will be piloting the use of on-site scanners this spring to transmit IEP information to the Interlocal Office. This will be done in the Pittsburg and Girard school districts.

An update on the Interlocal Autism Diagnosis Team was given. The team is trained to assist in completing a medical diagnosis for Autism.  The team will become active in February 2010.

Information regarding the new location of the Cherokee Village day school was given. It will be in Girard and will house K-12 students and staff along with a cafeteria and vocational area. There will be a name change but it has not been determined yet.

The question of a 'nepotism policy' for the Interlocal was discussed. There is not currently a policy and some staff concerns were expressed.

The next meeting of the Communication Council will be February 18, 2010 at 4 p.m. at the Interlocal Office.  Agenda items are due to Sheena Parks, chairperson, by Feb. 10.
