Interlocal Communication Council Meets

The first meeting of the Interlocal #637 Communication Council for the 2011-12 school year was held on September 29, 2011. Chairperson Sheena Parks presided with members Rhonda Bradshaw, Brenda Marshall, Lorna Belew, Melinda Adair, Vicki Couch, Vicki Miller, Mary Geier, Darrick Perry, Linda Knoll, Daria Condon, Tony Shearburn, Brian Biermann, Greg Kubler, Dennis Burke, Dan Duling, and Larry Coltrane present.
Information regarding the Interlocal sponsored phone conferences that will be held monthly this year was shared. The phone conferences will also be recorded and posted on the Interlocal website.
There was a discussion of Assistive Technology devices and their implementation, maintenance and inventory.
Technical issues regarding obtaining parental consent for a related service evaluation and the issuing of progress reports were discussed. Recommendations from that discussion are as follows:
1. The related service provider is responsible for obtaining permission (if needed) to evaluate for their particular disability when the student has previously been identified with a primary disability. The primary provider should be cooperative in this endeavor.
2. The recommended method of sending quarterly progress reports is through regular mail.
3. The student's primary provider and any related service providers should cooperate in at attempt to send progress reports at the same time. However, no service provider is expected to significantly delay their reporting because of unavailability of progress reports of another provider.
The schedule of Communications Council meetings for the remainder of the year are: December 1, January 26, February 16, April 19, and May 10. Possible agenda items should be provided to Sheena Parks, chairperson, ten days in advance of the meeting.
