General Interventions and Modifications

1.    Carefully select the student's desk placement

        seating up front, close to teacher providing easy access by para

        seating among well-focused students away from distractions: 

         pencil sharpener, fish tank, classroom door, etc.

2.    Proximity control

3.    A Redirecting touch

4.    Preventive cueing

5.    Eye contact

6.    Limiting visual distractions/clutter

7.    Designing room to accommodate different learning styles

8.    Use of study carrel

9.    Turning off or altering lights

10.    Headphones for blocking noise

11.    Using music (relaxation, transition times)

12.    Student movement

        allow students some freedom to move about classroom

13.    Set realistic goals

14.    Be consistent

15.    Teach your rules

16.    Behavioral contracts

17.    Appropriate behavior modeling

18.    HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR!
